Ups and Downs
Up: A friend is visiting from California! We’re doing non-touristy things, like eating and walking and hanging out and seeing a few shows.
Down: While trying to fix a knitting project, I accidentally cut a hole in the knitted fabric. I was working with a sportweight yarn knitted with size 2 needles, which means mending it will be a new project in itself. I’ve put it away because I’m too upset to look at it right now.
Up: I’m going to San Diego in 5 days!
Down: It’s 5 days until I go to San Diego.
Up: I’m back on a reading kick, which started up with Olive Kitteridge.
Down: My reading kick requires that I find interesting books to read and I’m apparently very picky.
Up: It’s 11 days until I go to Santa Barbara. =)
A Small Accomplishment, I Suppose
I bought my first hanks of yarn for a project I’m working on – which feels all fancy to me because I have to turn it into pull-able balls of yarn before I can use it (ooOOooh…). This means I’ve been getting some practice using the backs of my dining chairs and a toilet paper roll in lieu of the professional-looking umbrella and handled spinning thing (aka ball winder) when Doug’s not around for me to borrow his arms.
The set up:

First try:

Second try:

I’m feeling pretty spiffy right about now. If you’ve ever seen what the umbrella contraption turns out, you’ll know that the second try looks pretty close to what they’re supposed to look like. If you haven’t, well – take my word for it.
In The Market
